Frequently asked questions

Q: Do the needles hurt?
A: The sensation caused by an acupuncture needle varies.  Some people feel a little pain like a mosquito bite, but most people feel no pain at all.

Q: How safe is Acupuncture?
A: Acupuncture is extremely safe.  It is an all-natural, drug-free therapy, yielding no side effects except feelings of relaxation and well-being.  There is little to no danger of infection from acupuncture needles because they are sterile and disposable.

Q: Is Acupuncture safe for children?
A:  Yes!  In most instances children actually respond better and quicker than adults.  If your child has an aversion to needles, massaging the acupuncture points can achieve a similar effect.

Q: How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments will vary from person to person and also by the severity of one’s condition.  Some people experience immediate relief; others may take weeks to months to achieve results.  Chronic conditions usually take longer to resolve than acute conditions.

Q: Will my insurance cover Acupuncture and Chiropractic care?
A: We accept most PPO plans, flex spending accounts, and auto accident medpay.  However, insurance policies vary in terms of deductible, co-payment, and percentage of coverage.  Because of the variance from one insurance policy to another, we require that the patient be responsible for any unpaid balances.  If you want our staff to verify and explain your benefits before treatment, please call, fax, or email us with your insurance information.
For patients who have little or no chiropractic and/or acupuncture insurance coverage, flexible payment programs can be arranged with our office.  Please ask our staff for details.

Q: How much does it cost?
A: Rates may vary depending upon which treatments are performed.  Please contact our office for a fee schedule.

Q: What form of payments do you accept?
We accept cash, personal checks, debit card, Visa, and MasterCard.

Q: What should I expect on my initial visit?
After you complete your new patient intake form, which will provide us with general information about your health and condition, Dr. Amy Choi will meet with you to determine your particular needs.  She will review your medical history, perform a complete Chiropractic and/or Acupuncture examination(s), and discuss what you want to achieve with each treatment, and then recommend the type of treatments you need in order to get well.  Treatment type and frequency are determined on an individual basis, as each patient has different needs.  The initial visit will take between 30 to 90 minutes, depending on the type of care that’s needed.  Patients are usually provided with their first treatment at the conclusion of their initial visit.  This may include spinal adjustments, physio-therapy, soft tissue work, Acupuncture, Cupping¸ dietary/nutritional recommendations, and home exercises and/or stretches.  Dr. Amy Choi is an accomplished Acupuncturist and Chiropractor and will offer you a comfortable environment and compassionate care during your visits.
